Make space for life

From quiet escapes to full-scale adventures, we all long for a little more space in our cars, in our homes and in our lives. At Twistboxes, we help you make that space. Our rollable roof box is made for those who live freely, travel often and value simplicity without compromise.

“For decades, roof boxes were only for those who had the space to store them. I wanted to make freedom available to more people. That is where Twistboxes began.”

– Mikael Nelderup, Creator & CEO of Twistboxes

A vision coming alive

The idea started on the road, between long drives, packed weekends and the wish to make travel feel easier. Roof boxes had barely changed for decades. Big. Heavy. Hard to store.

The real insight came at home, in the rhythm of everyday life. Small cars, tight garages and city apartments made traditional roof boxes impractical for many people. From IKEA runs to ski weekends, the need for extra space was clear, but the old solutions simply did not fit modern living.

Mikael sewed the first functional prototype in his garage, and the concept worked from the start. The development that followed strengthened every part of it, from materials to safety, shaping Twistboxes into the smarter roof box invented for real life.

Production and Craftsmanship

The new global benchmark of safety

At Twistboxes, safety is not an option - it’s our foundation. In independent tests conducted by the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), Twistboxes outperformed every leading competitor. Our roof box successfully passed the industry’s toughest challenges: the City Crash Test at 18 km/h and 13 g, a High-Speed Test at 30 km/h, and even the UNECE R129 Crash Test at 49 km/h – the same standard used for child car seats.

Based on these test results, it is fair to say that Twistboxes roof box is the safest roof box in the world. Withstanding forces up to 26.8 g without external damage or detached parts, Twistboxes has proven to surpass all existing industry standards and set a new global benchmark for safety. Quite simply, Twistboxes is the world’s safest roof box.

We believe that smart design brings a sense of freedom.

    Fundamentals

    • Innovation - always one step ahead
    • Design and function - in perfect balance
    • Sustainability - in all aspects
    • Freedom - to live small and travel big
  • Sustainability at Twistboxes

Sustainability runs through every layer of Twistboxes. From the aerodynamic design that reduces drag to the efficient logistics that minimize waste, every detail counts.

Our aerodynamic structure cuts air resistance by 25.6 percent, supporting lower fuel and energy consumption while delivering a smooth drive with no whistling noise. Better performance with a smaller footprint.

The foldable construction takes this even further. Because the box rolls into a compact form, transport and storage become far more efficient. Each unit occupies only a fraction of the space of a traditional roof box, which means fewer containers, fewer trucks and a significantly reduced carbon impact during both production shipments and customer deliveries.

The patented construction also avoids large plastic shells. Instead, Twistboxes uses a stainless steel base plate and aluminum stabilizers that offer long-lasting durability while minimizing material waste and extending the product’s lifespan.

At Twistboxes, innovation and sustainability move together. We believe smarter design should create cleaner mobility, without compromise.

Features that redefine what a roof box can be

Twistboxes is designed for real life. Side and full-top access let you pack from any angle without stretching or scratching your car. The foldable sides protect your vehicle when loading, and the lightweight 16.5 kg construction allows one-person handling with ease.

Because it rolls into a compact form, storage becomes effortless. No garage hooks. No ceiling lifts. No need for extra space. It is the only full-size roof box you can pick up as a parcel and carry home in its own compact packaging.

Everyday convenience meets adventure-ready performance

Twistboxes is built for both the everyday and the exceptional. School runs, IKEA trips, weekend escapes, surf gear, golf bags, camping equipment or a family ski holiday – one roof box adapts to all of it. Its compact storage size makes it ideal for city living and small cars, while its 520 liters of capacity matches the volume of traditional full-size roof boxes.

Finding the right roof box is simple when innovation does the work

Because Twistboxes fits all roof racks and all car types, you do not need to choose between models or sizes. One patented construction works across compact cars, sedans, estates and SUVs. Traditional roof boxes require storing a large plastic shell when not in use. Twistboxes eliminates that problem entirely – rolling into a form you can store in a closet, hallway or your car trunk.

A smarter standard for modern travel.

FAQ

Absolutely! It has a steel skeleton that runs along the entire underside as well as the front of the Twistboxes. The attachment of the product to the roof of the car takes place in the steel – which guarantees high strength even during panic braking at high speed. The steel frame also prevents loosely packed items in the box from flying out through the front. We think our solution is safer than other products on the market that is made of plastic or fiberglass – which may crack in case of high stress.

Certainly! Twistboxes remains stable whether it's loaded up or empty – no wobbling while you drive.

No, it is very difficult to open with a knife or other tools. The fabric, which is very strong, is on both the inside and outside of the box, i.e. double-sided. Between the fabrics, there is a stainless steel plate at the bottom and a 3 mm thick plastic in the roof and sides, which is also lined. It makes it impossible to easily cut open a Twistboxes.

Yes you can. It works with a padlock and cable in the right length. This is available as an accessory.

It fits all market roof racks. Mount using the "quick mount", recommended with 4 T-bolts and 4 Twistboxes mounts. Alternatively, use 4 U-clamps with 8 Twistboxes mounts, depending on your rack's design. Maximum width for racks without a T-rail is 7 cm since the included U-clamp is 8 cm wide.

Mount it on your roof rack with Twistboxes' unique fittings. Se our instruction page for more info.

Gen3 weighs 16,4 kg.

Yes! It is both lighter and has lower air resistance than other roof boxes of the same size. In an independent test, air resistance was 25% lower than a comparable traditional roof box. Add to that – Twistboxes can be easily folded on the roof and transported flat when empty, which provides minimal air resistance.

The length of the roof box is 2 meters. But you can put in much longer items than that. This is done by not pulling the back zip – then, for example, your long skis can stick out. There are fastening straps inside the roof box that you then attach the skates to to prevent them from slipping out.

Twistboxes do not limit the speed of your vehicle. Rather, the limitation lies in the maximum permitted speed the vehicle can handle. Don't forget to follow the speed sign!

Yes, it's equipped with UV50+ protection, making it almost sun-resistant. However, like all materials, it might fade over time. It's a good idea not to expose it to strong sunlight for prolonged periods.

The Twistboxes is made of waterproof fabric sewn with thread that minimizes water penetration. But it may occur that water penetrates in heavy rainfall. Always pack sensitive items in waterproof bags, such as our own duffelbags. For environmental reasons, the fabric is not treated with a means of mold (because of its toxic character). To avoid mold not occurring, make sure that the Twistboxes always has the opportunity to dry up completely, avoid, for example, rolling your Twistboxes immediately after a heavy rainy weather. If mold were to occur – be sure to wipe it off with a moistened cloth immediately and your Twistboxes will not be damaged.

It's been tested in extreme conditions, enduring heavy snowfall and temperatures as low as -35°C.

No, but the fabric and zippers are waterproof. But in heavy rein, water can get in!

Absolutely! Check it in as regular luggage; it's compact and lighter than most suitcases.

Clean the box inside and out with soap and water only. Use a soft cloth to avoid scratches. Make sure the product is dry before rolling it up and storing it to avoid mold growth.
